Monday, August 10, 2026 - Türkiye’s airports handled 138.76 million passengers during the first seven months of 2026, a figure larger than the combined population of 18 European Union member states, according to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
The total includes domestic, international and direct transit passengers, highlighting the scale of Türkiye’s growing role as an international aviation hub.
Passenger traffic continued to build strongly through the summer. In July alone, airports across the country handled about 26.8 million passengers, including 10.48 million on domestic routes and 16.31 million on international routes.
The country also recorded more than 249,000 aircraft movements during the month, reflecting heavy demand across its expanding aviation network.
Istanbul remained a major driver of the growth, with Istanbul Airport alone serving more than 48 million passengers between January and July.
The latest figures underline Türkiye’s expanding connectivity and the growing importance of its airports to tourism, trade and regional travel. With passenger numbers continuing to rise, the country is positioning its aviation infrastructure for even greater traffic in the years ahead.
