Monday, August 10, 2026 - Syrian security forces have arrested a nine-member Daesh cell in Quneitra province, marking a significant security operation in southern Syria.

The Interior Ministry said the operation was carried out in the town of Khan Arnabeh in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, with the suspected cell leader, Musab Khalil al-Sheikh, among those detained.

Authorities said preliminary investigations indicate that the group was involved in logistical and field activities supporting Daesh, including collecting weapons and transporting explosive devices and their components.

The alleged cell leader was previously active with the group in Damascus, the Syrian desert and parts of the southern Hauran region, according to the Interior Ministry.

All nine suspects have been referred to judicial authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The arrests highlight continuing security concerns over Daesh networks in Syria and the authorities’ effort to disrupt cells before they can expand their operations or carry out attacks.
