Monday, August 10, 2026 - Daniel Kinahan, an alleged leader of the Kinahan organised crime group, has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Ireland to face charges of directing a criminal organisation.
The 49-year-old was handed over to Irish authorities in Dubai on Sunday before being flown to Dublin on an Irish government aircraft and brought directly before a special court under heavy security.
Kinahan was arrested in Dubai in April following an Irish warrant and has now been remanded in custody after the Dublin court hearing. US authorities had previously identified him as one of three senior figures in the Kinahan Organised Crime Group and offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to their arrest and conviction.
The group has been linked by authorities to international drug trafficking and other organised criminal activity, with operations extending beyond Ireland.
His extradition marks a major development in a years-long international pursuit involving Irish, US and UAE authorities.
Kinahan’s return to Ireland places the alleged crime boss before the country’s justice system, where prosecutors will now pursue the organised-crime case against him. He remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
