Monday, August 17, 2026 - Sam Pang has taken home Australia’s most coveted television prize, winning the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality at the 2026 TV WEEK Logie Awards in Sydney.
The comedian and presenter, known for Have You Been Paying Attention? and The Front Bar, delivered the kind of sharp, self-deprecating acceptance speech audiences have come to expect from him.
After hosting the ceremony for three consecutive years, Pang joked about his unlikely journey into television and thanked those who helped him along the way, admitting he never imagined he would end up holding the industry’s biggest individual award.
The night became even more memorable when Magda Szubanski made a surprise return to television following her battle with cancer. Appearing in character as the much-loved Sharon Strzelecki from Kath & Kim, Szubanski joined host Robert Irwin in a hilarious segment before presenting Pang with the Gold Logie.
Her appearance marked one of her first major public returns after revealing she was in remission, turning what could have been a routine awards presentation into one of the evening’s most emotional and unexpected moments.
Pang’s victory capped a dramatic night for Australian television, with Szubanski’s comeback and the Gold Logie dominating the conversation. The ceremony also delivered major milestones, including Deborah Mailman becoming the first Indigenous person inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame and the late Sam Neill receiving a posthumous award for The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer.
For Pang, however, the headline is clear: after years of making audiences laugh, he has finally claimed the Gold Logie—and his characteristically funny reaction made the win even more memorable.
