Wednesday, August 19, 2026 - Palestinian-American Loui Ridi has returned from the United States to his family home in Qusra, in the occupied West Bank, after Israeli settlers surrounded several Palestinian homes for more than a week.
Ridi said he had been watching security-camera footage from the U.S. as his family and neighbors faced attacks and pressure, leaving him increasingly determined to return and stand with them. He arrived on August 17 to join relatives defending the property.
The standoff has intensified tensions in Qusra, where residents say settlers have restricted movement and cut access to essential services. Israeli troops have been deployed to the area, which has been designated a closed military zone, while the United States has condemned the siege.
The confrontation comes amid a wider surge in settler violence across the West Bank, with Palestinian residents reporting repeated attacks, property damage and displacement.
Ridi’s return has placed the spotlight on a rapidly escalating struggle over Palestinian homes and land. His decision to leave his life and work in Ohio and return to a tense environment underscores the urgency facing families in Qusra, who say they are fighting to remain on their land.
With international pressure mounting and the situation still developing, attention is now focused on whether authorities will end the siege and protect the residents caught in the confrontation.
