Monday, June 22, 2026-A British actress has been charged in Australia after allegedly attempting to import a large commercial quantity of methamphetamine into the country in what authorities describe as a major international drug smuggling operation.
The drugs, reportedly around 320kg with an estimated street value of nearly A$300 million, were concealed in shipments of charcoal and traced through a coordinated investigation by border and federal police.
According to investigators, the shipment originated from West Africa and was intercepted after Australian Border Force officers flagged irregularities in shipping containers arriving at Sydney’s Port Botany.
The operation did not end at the port, with law enforcement tracking the cargo to storage facilities where the alleged handover took place, leading to the actress’s arrest in Sydney. Authorities also detained additional suspects in connection with identity fraud and logistics used in the alleged trafficking network.
The accused now faces extremely serious charges, including attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, which carries a potential life sentence under Australian law.
The case has drawn wide attention due to both the scale of the seizure and the involvement of a public figure, highlighting the increasing sophistication of international drug trafficking routes. As legal proceedings move forward, authorities continue to stress that the interception prevented millions of potential street-level transactions.
