Thousands gather in Italy to commemorate Palestinian children killed in Gaza

Friday, June 5, 2026- Thousands march in Milan to honor Palestinian children killed in Gaza Hundreds of people gathered Friday in Milan, Italy, to commemorate children who have died in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing conflict.

Demonstrators unfolded a 27-meter symbolic shroud bearing 18,457 names of Palestinian children reported killed between October 7, 2023 and July 31, 2025 while moving silently from the Duomo di Milano toward Castello Sforzesco.

Palestinian flags and keffiyehs were prominent at the event, which organizers described as both a memorial and a protest against ongoing violence.

Participants stood in silence before the procession, emphasizing solidarity with families affected in Gaza and raising awareness about the humanitarian impact of the nearly three-year long conflict.

Although a ceasefire took effect in October 2025, fighting and fatalities continue, according to local health sources cited by demonstrators. The rally reflects sustained grassroots mobilization in Italy; similar displays and commemorations have appeared in over 30 public squares across the country since late 2024.

Italy remains engaged on related fronts: the government this week appealed for the release of Italian pro-Palestinian activists detained in Libya after attempting to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning their health is deteriorating after days on hunger and water strike.

Separate local initiatives have also seen evacuations of Gazan children to Italy for medical care and civic tributes in towns across the country seeking to draw global attention to the plight of civilians.
