36 students, 3 teachers missing after armed men attack school in Nigeria

Tuesday, June 30, 2026- A major security crisis is unfolding in northeastern Nigeria after armed men stormed a secondary school in Borno State and abducted 36 students and 3 teachers during a morning raid.

Reports confirm that the attack took place while students were sitting examinations, creating chaos as gunmen overpowered school security and forced victims out of classrooms and hostels. One teacher was also killed during the assault, adding to the severity of the incident as families await urgent updates on their missing children.

Authorities say the victims include 25 girls and 11 boys, along with three staff members, and that at least some individuals have since been rescued while search operations continue for the remaining captives.

Security forces have been deployed across surrounding communities as officials coordinate rescue efforts, but the exact whereabouts of the missing students and teachers remains unknown.

The attack has once again raised alarm over the worsening insecurity affecting schools in northern Nigeria, where armed groups continue to target educational institutions for mass kidnappings.

The situation is putting renewed pressure on authorities to strengthen protection for students, as parents and communities face growing fear that schools are no longer safe spaces. With rescue efforts ongoing, the incident highlights an urgent and escalating crisis that demands immediate security intervention.
