Senior Hezbollah Commander reportedly killed by Israel in Beirut suburbs strike

Thursday, May 7, 2026- A senior commander from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force has reportedly been killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to multiple reports from Lebanese security sources and officials.

The strike hit the Ghobeiri/Haret Hreik area, a heavily fortified Hezbollah stronghold, and is described as the first major Israeli attack on the Lebanese capital’s outskirts in weeks, despite an ongoing fragile ceasefire environment.

Reports indicate the target was Malek Ballout, identified as an operations commander within the Radwan Force, who was allegedly killed during a meeting of senior Hezbollah figures inside a residential building.

At least several other casualties were reported in wider strikes across Lebanon as tensions continue to escalate between Israel and Hezbollah. Israeli officials said the operation specifically targeted a senior commander involved in cross-border attacks against Israel.

The strike underscores how quickly the situation is deteriorating despite diplomatic efforts and temporary truces in the region. Beirut’s southern suburbs—long considered a Hezbollah stronghold—are once again becoming a flashpoint, raising fears of renewed large-scale escalation.

With both sides continuing targeted operations, the risk of the conflict expanding beyond localized strikes remains high and increasingly unpredictable.
