Iranian media warns disputes threaten potential US deal

Tuesday, May 26, 2026- Iranian state-linked media outlets are warning that unresolved disputes with the United States could still collapse a fragile emerging agreement between Washington and Tehran, despite recent signs of diplomatic progress.

The disagreements reportedly center on frozen Iranian assets, sanctions relief, uranium stockpiles, and control over the Strait of Hormuz — issues that negotiators have struggled to finalize in ongoing indirect talks. Iranian officials have accused the U.S. of delaying key commitments while American officials insist no concessions will be granted until Iran fully complies with proposed conditions.

President Donald Trump recently said the deal was “largely negotiated” but also cautioned that the U.S. would not rush into an agreement, signaling growing uncertainty around the negotiations.

Iranian media has meanwhile warned that continued “obstruction” by Washington over the release of frozen funds and sanctions removal could cause the proposed truce framework to collapse entirely. Reports suggest both sides remain divided over how Iran’s enriched uranium would be handled and whether restrictions tied to regional military activity would remain in place.

The negotiations are unfolding amid heightened regional tensions, ongoing military pressure, and political resistance from hardliners on both sides. Analysts say even small disagreements could derail the talks because the proposed framework involves major geopolitical issues including maritime security, oil exports, nuclear oversight, and sanctions enforcement.

While officials in Washington and Tehran continue signaling cautious optimism publicly, Iranian media coverage increasingly reflects fears that the window for a breakthrough may be rapidly narrowing.
