Eight people died in bus-truck accident in Brazil

Tuesday, May 26, 2026- At least eight people were killed and 10 others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a truck on a federal highway in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state early Sunday morning.

Authorities said the crash occurred near the municipality of Santa Cruz de Salinas when the two vehicles slammed into each other before bursting into flames. The impact caused the bus to overturn as emergency crews rushed to the scene to rescue survivors trapped inside the wreckage.

Regional fire officials confirmed that all of the victims were passengers on the bus, including an infant, while the occupants of the truck survived the collision. Several injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in serious condition.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as flames rapidly engulfed both vehicles following the crash, forcing rescuers to battle intense heat while searching for survivors.

Brazilian authorities have now launched an investigation into the cause of the accident as concerns grow over repeated deadly highway crashes across the country. Police temporarily closed sections of the BR-251 highway while forensic teams examined the scene and cleared burned debris from the roadway.

The tragedy adds to a growing number of fatal transportation accidents in Brazil this year, intensifying pressure on officials to improve highway safety enforcement and long-distance passenger transport regulations.
