Saturday, April 25, 2026- Ukraine has launched its deepest drone strike of the war, hitting the Russian cities of Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk—more than 1,800 kilometers from Ukrainian territory.
The unprecedented marks the first time drones have reached Russia’s Ural region, a strategic industrial zone far beyond previous strike ranges. Explosions and fires were reported overnight, with smoke seen rising over urban and industrial sites.
Initial reports indicate the drones targeted both infrastructure and residential areas, with at least one strike hitting a high-rise building in Yekaterinburg, causing injuries and forcing evacuations.
Russian officials confirmed emergency responses were deployed quickly, while local authorities worked to assess damage and contain the situation. The attack underscores Ukraine’s expanding long-range strike capability and its ability to bypass air defenses deep inside Russian territory.
Military analysts say the operation signals a major shift in the battlefield dynamic, extending the war’s reach into Russia’s industrial heartland.
With no confirmed interception during the drones’ extended flight—reportedly lasting up to 10 hours—the strike raises serious questions about the effectiveness of Russian air defense systems at long range.
