Saturday, April 25, 2026- A group of 60 former British ambassadors and senior diplomats has issued a stark warning over what they describe as accelerating Israeli moves toward annexation in the occupied West Bank.
In a strongly worded intervention, the diplomats urged the UK government to take immediate and concrete action, arguing that current policies on settlement expansion and land control risk permanently altering the territory’s status and undermining prospects for a political resolution.
The former envoys are calling for tougher measures, including suspending trade ties linked to settlements, halting arms transfers, and coordinating sanctions with international partners.
They argue that continued diplomatic criticism without consequences has failed to slow developments on the ground, where settlement expansion and administrative changes are increasingly seen by critics as steps toward de facto annexation.
Their warning comes amid growing international concern over recent Israeli actions, including the reestablishment of settlements and expanded control mechanisms across parts of the West Bank.
Analysts say these moves are reshaping realities on the ground, making a future two-state solution harder to achieve and intensifying pressure on Western governments to respond more decisively.
