Hundreds trying to storm Wisconsin beagle research facility met with rubber bullets, pepper spray

Tuesday, April 21, 2026-A chaotic confrontation unfolded at the Ridglan Farms beagle research facility as hundreds of animal rights activists attempted to storm the site, only to be met with rubber bullets and pepper spray from law enforcement.

Authorities say nearly 1,000 protesters gathered at the facility, with several hundred trying to force their way past barricades in an effort to free roughly 2,000 dogs housed there.

Officials described the situation as rapidly escalating, with protesters cutting fences, blocking roads, and ignoring designated protest zones.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said between 300 and 400 individuals were actively attempting to breach the property and, in some cases, clashed with officers. Law enforcement responded with crowd-control measures, including pepper spray, tear gas, and rubber bullets, while making multiple arrests to restore order.

Despite the масштаб of the effort, no dogs were successfully removed during the attempted raid. The protest is part of an ongoing campaign by activists who accuse the facility of mistreatment—claims the operators deny, insisting they comply with regulations.

The clash highlights growing tensions between animal rights groups and research institutions, with both sides digging in as legal battles and public pressure continue to intensify.
