Monday, April 27, 2026- Mali has been rocked by a wave of coordinated attacks after gunmen launched near-simultaneous assaults across the country, including in the capital Bamako and several key cities.
The military confirmed that “terrorist groups” targeted strategic locations such as army bases, the international airport, and major urban centers, triggering heavy gunfire and explosions in multiple at once.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos, with sustained gunfire near the Kati military base—just outside Bamako—and similar attacks reported in cities including Gao, Sévaré, and Kidal. Authorities say the attacks were highly coordinated, suggesting involvement from well-organized armed groups operating across different regions simultaneously.
Militant groups linked to al-Qaeda, alongside Tuareg rebel factions, have claimed responsibility for the offensive, marking one of the most significant escalations in Mali’s ongoing security crisis in years.
The army says it has repelled several assaults and launched counter-operations, but the scale and reach of the attacks have raised urgent concerns about the country’s stability as fighting continues.
