GOPers ignore election officials’ warnings, leaving Georgia little time for paper ballots switch

Sunday, April 5, 2026-GOP leaders in Georgia are facing criticism for disregarding election officials’ repeated warnings about the state’s readiness to implement paper ballots.

Officials have said the state has little time to switch over before upcoming elections, citing logistical challenges and potential delays. Despite these concerns, some Republican lawmakers have pushed forward with changes that could force counties to scramble to meet new requirements.

Election administrators have warned that rushed implementation could lead to voter confusion, longer lines, and technical problems at polling places.

The situation has sparked debate over election security and voter access, with some arguing that paper ballots are necessary for transparency, while others worry the state may not have the infrastructure in place to handle the sudden shift.

Counties are now racing to secure the necessary equipment and train poll workers in time, while state officials urge lawmakers to consider the practical implications of the compressed timeline.
