Sunday, April 26, 2026- Bangladesh’s worsening health crisis has deepened after 11 more people died from measles-like symptoms in just 24 hours, pushing the total death toll past 250 since mid-March.
Officials say the outbreak has spread rapidly across the country, now affecting the vast majority of districts, with hospitals struggling to keep up as new cases surge daily.
Health authorities report more than 30,000 suspected infections and over 4,400 confirmed measles cases, though the true scale may be higher due to limited testing capacity. A shortage of diagnostic kits has made it difficult to confirm cases, leaving many fatalities classified as “measles-like,” even as symptoms strongly indicate the disease.
The government has launched an emergency vaccination campaign, targeting millions of children as the outbreak continues to spread.
Officials warn the situation remains critical, particularly for young children who make up the majority of cases and deaths. With transmission still widespread, urgent containment efforts are underway to prevent further loss of life.
