Monday, March 2, 2026-Despite President Donald Trump’s ban on federal use of Anthropic’s AI tools, the U.S. military reportedly used the company’s Claude artificial intelligence model during its recent strikes on Iran.
Multiple reports indicate that U.S. Central Command deployed Claude for key operational support, including intelligence analysis, target identification, and battlefield simulations, just hours after Trump ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s technology.
Trump had designated Anthropic a “supply chain risk” and directed all agencies to cease using its AI following disagreements over Pentagon access to the model. However, senior defense sources say Claude remained deeply embedded in military systems and was too integrated to be immediately removed, especially in the middle of a major offensive.
The reports highlight a growing tension between AI regulation at the top level of government and the practical realities of ongoing combat operations. Although the president’s order aimed to sever ties with Anthropic, the Pentagon continued using Claude during the critical mission, underscoring how advanced AI tools are now interwoven with modern military planning.
