U.S. and Ukraine hold marathon talks in Miami on TRUMP's peace plan
Sunday, December 7, 2025 -U.S. and Ukrainian officials convened in Miami this week for marathon talks on the peace proposal backed by the Trump administration. The delegation, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, met with Ukraine’s negotiators — led by Rustem Umerov and the country’s military chief of staff Andrii Hnatov — to hammer out revisions to the plan that could bring an end to the war.
Officials from both sides described the meetings as “productive,” though they stressed that a successful agreement depends squarely on Russia’s willingness to commit to long-term peace, de-escalation, and security guarantees.
Over three days of negotiations, the focus narrowed on two thorny issues: territorial adjustments and security assurances. While the original draft of the plan — which included controversial concessions of territory — was heavily criticized, delegates say the document has been reworked to make it more acceptable to Kyiv.
However, despite intense discussions, Ukrainian officials admitted that “difficult questions remain,” with no final agreement reached as of the talks’ close.
As the Miami talks ended, both sides emphasized a cautious optimism but acknowledged the path ahead remains uncertain. The U.S. has signaled readiness to present the revised plan to Moscow, arguing that the war must end — but Ukrainian leaders insist any deal must safeguard their sovereignty and guarantee real, enforceable security.
For now, the world watches carefully: the stakes are high, and the next move may determine whether diplomacy can finally override conflict.
