TRUMP to host DRC’s FELIX TSHISEKEDI and Rwanda’s PAUL KAGAME to sign peace deal

Friday, December 5, 2025 -
Donald J. Trump is set to host Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Paul Kagame of Rwanda in Washington, D.C., for a high‑stakes signing of a U.S.-brokered peace and economic agreement.

The ceremony — described as the most consequential push in years to address the violence in eastern Congo — follows months of negotiations facilitated by the U.S. and international partners.

The pact builds on an earlier deal signed in June 2025. Under the agreement, the two countries commit to regional economic integration, cooperation on critical minerals, and a security framework aimed at troop withdrawal, disarmament of non‑state armed groups, and stabilization of conflict‑affected areas.

However, the peace deal comes at a fragile moment. Eastern DRC remains plagued by ongoing conflict involving many armed groups — most notably the Rwanda‑backed M23 rebel group. Observers caution that while the agreement offers hope, its success depends heavily on implementation, enforcement, and actual withdrawal of forces.
