TRUMP calls Somali immigrants ‘garbage’ as US reportedly targets Minnesota community

Wednesday, December 3, 2025 -
In a sharply worded address at a recent Cabinet meeting, Donald J. Trump described Somali immigrants — and by extension much of the Somali‑American community in Minnesota — as “garbage” who “contribute nothing” and said that the U.S. does not want them in the country.

He singled out Ilhan Omar by name, calling her and her associates “garbage,” and urged Somalis to “go back to where they came from” and “fix” their homeland.

At the same time, federal authorities are reportedly preparing a major immigration‑enforcement operation in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area — home to the country’s largest Somali‑American community. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) strike teams are said to be mobilizing to target undocumented Somalis with final deportation orders, prompting deep concern among civil‑rights advocates and local officials.

Local leaders have pushed back strongly. Jacob Frey, mayor of Minneapolis, affirmed that Somali‑Americans are valued members of the city and that federal raids risk civil‑rights abuses, warning that the targeting of an entire ethnic community is both “wrong” and un-American.

As tension escalates, the unfolding saga raises urgent questions about immigration policy, community protection, and what values the U.S. stands for today.
