NATO fighters scrambled in Poland as Russia bombards Ukraine
Sunday, December 7, 2025 -Fighter jets from NATO were scrambled in Poland and air-defense systems placed on alert after Russia launched a large overnight barrage of drones and missiles against Ukraine.
The alert, declared by the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command, triggered immediate readiness of ground-based air defenses and radar surveillance across Polish airspace adjacent to the conflict zone.
According to Ukrainian military sources, Russia’s attack involved hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, targeted across many regions and hitting energy, transport, and civilian infrastructure.
While the Ukrainian air force intercepted a substantial portion of the attack, the scale and intensity of the bombardment triggered alarm in neighboring countries — prompting preventive action by NATO.
Polish and allied aircraft operated in Polish airspace for several hours while the alert was in effect. Command officials emphasized the actions were precautionary, aimed at safeguarding airspace and protecting civilians — and noted that no confirmed airspace violations occurred.
Still, the scramble underscores how Russia’s strikes on Ukraine are forcing NATO to respond, increasing the risk of regional escalation and highlighting the war’s broad ripple effects beyond Ukraine’s borders.
