Sunday, December 7, 2025 -A horrific mass shooting rocked a township outside Pretoria early Saturday, as gunmen stormed an illegal bar inside a hostel and opened fire.
Police say at least 11 people were killed, among them three children — ages 3, 12, and 16 — and another 14 people were wounded and taken to hospital.
The attack unfolded in the Saulsville township, west of Pretoria, around 4:30 a.m. local time, when three unknown gunmen entered the venue and began randomly shooting at a group of people drinking.
Authorities said a total of 25 people were shot in the volley of gunfire; ten died at the scene and at least one more died later in hospital.
No arrests have yet been made, and the motive remains unclear. The tragedy adds to a troubling pattern of mass shootings in South Africa, especially at unlicensed bars and hostels — a phenomenon law enforcement officials have flagged repeatedly.
As the country reels from yet another violent incident, there is growing concern about public safety and the prevalence of illegal drinking establishments tied to gun violence.
