Friday, November 7, 2025 -Two individuals have been apprehended following the tragic demise of a baby boy in south-east Wales on Sunday, November 2nd. A male suspect in his thirties and a female suspect in her twenties, both originating from Rogiet where the incident transpired, have been detained on suspicion of being responsible for the dog’s dangerously out-of-control behavior, resulting in injury and ultimately, the child’s death.
Additionally, they have been apprehended on suspicion of child neglect and have been released on bail pending the ongoing investigation. Gwent Police Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend has issued a statement urging individuals to refrain from making any comments on social media regarding the ongoing investigation. She has also appealed for anyone with previous interactions with the six-year-old dog to contact the police directly.
Townsend emphasized the importance of not speculating and stated that if individuals have any information, including details about the dog involved—a male, black XL Bully—and its previous behavior, they should contact the police directly. She acknowledged the significant interest in this matter within our communities but emphasized that this is now a live criminal investigation.
Earlier this week, a Dog Legislation Officer confirmed that the dog had been registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) prior to the implementation of the ban on the breed.
