Friday, November 21, 2025 -Lionsgate dropped the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, giving fans a gripping first look at Joseph Zada as a young Haymitch Abernathy, stepping into a role once made iconic by Woody Harrelson. The film, set 24 years before Katniss’s story, captures the brutal 50th Hunger Games — Panem’s Second Quarter Quell — where Haymitch must survive a massively expanded field of 48 tributes.
The trailer opens with a chilling call from the Capitol:
“Twice the number of tributes, twice the glory. Let the 50th Hunger Games begin.”
We then glimpse Haymitch in emotional moments — hugging a fellow tribute, handing a token to his love interest Lenore (played by Whitney Peak), and steeling himself for the fight ahead. His voiceover adds, “I think these Games are going to be different.”
Under director Francis Lawrence, the movie boasts a high-profile ensemble, including Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Elle Fanning as young Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and starring roles for Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, and others. Sunrise on the Reaping is slated for release on November 20, 2026.
