Friday, November 14, 2025 -Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has granted last‑minute clemency to Tremane Wood, commuting his death sentence to life in prison without parole just hours before a scheduled execution. Wood, 46, was set to be executed for the 2002 stabbing death of Ronnie Wipf during a botched robbery.
The commutation follows a narrow 3–2 recommendation from the state’s Pardon and Parole Board, a rare decision in Stitt’s nearly seven-year tenure.
In his statement, Stitt said he made the decision after a “thorough review of the facts and prayerful consideration,” noting that Wood will receive the same punishment as his brother — life without parole — and that this ensures a “severe punishment” while keeping a violent offender off the streets.
Wood’s defense argued that his original trial was flawed: they claim his attorney was ineffective, and that prosecutors concealed favorable information from the jury. Wood himself denied delivering the fatal stab, accepting responsibility for his role in the robbery but insisting his brother was the one who killed Wipf.
