JAMEIS WINSTON set to start for Giants as new coach demotes RUSSELL WILSON

Thursday, November 13, 2025 -Jameis Winston is set to take over as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, with rookie Jaxson Dart sidelined in concussion protocol.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka, in his first major decision since replacing Brian Daboll, announced the move and elevated Winston above veteran Russell Wilson, who will now serve as backup. The change comes as the Giants sit at 2‑8 and look to reset in what has been a turbulent season.

Winston, 31, signed a two‑year contract in the offseason and brings extensive NFL experience but hasn’t played in a regular‑season game yet this year.

Wilson, 36, has struggled with inconsistencies, going 0‑3 as a starter and recently completing just 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards in relief of Dart. Kafka expressed confidence in Winston’s leadership and production, signalling a clear shift in direction for the team.

For the Giants, the decision reflects urgency: with the franchise floundering, the coaching change and quarterback move are designed to reignite the offense and rebuild momentum.

For Wilson, the demotion marks a low point after being signed to be a veteran starter, and for Winston, it’s an opportunity to stake his claim under a fresh coaching regime.
