Friday, November 7, 2025 -On Thursday, seven individuals were briefly hospitalized at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, the location of the United States President’s Air Force One, following the receipt of a suspicious package containing an unidentified white powder.
According to a spokesperson for the base, an individual opened the package during the afternoon, and the situation was resolved by the early evening. All individuals affected by the incident have since been discharged from the hospital.
However, the specific nature of the powder or the potential health consequences it may have caused remain unclear at this time. “Joint Base Andrews responded to an incident today following the opening of a suspicious package.
As a precautionary measure, the building and its connecting structure were evacuated, and a perimeter was established around the affected area,” the base command stated in a statement to WUSA9. “Joint Base Andrews’ first responders were promptly dispatched to the scene, assessed the situation, and determined that there were no immediate threats. Normal operations have resumed. An ongoing investigation is currently underway.”
CNN, which initially reported the incident, reported that the package contained an unidentified white powder, and several individuals were transported to the Malcolm Grove medical center on the base. The severity of their illnesses was not immediately disclosed.
The outlet further indicated that first responders from the base determined that there was no immediate threat and had transferred the scene to the United States Air Force’s office of special investigations.
An initial field test conducted by the hazardous materials team yielded no indications of harmful substances, but the investigation continues, as reported by CNN, citing a source familiar with the matter.
CNN also stated that the room where the envelope was opened, situated within a building housing the Air National Guard Readiness Center, has been temporarily closed.
