Senegalese goalkeeper,18, abducted and killed in Ghana

Monday, October 20, 2025 - The Senegalese football community is in mourning following the tragic murder of promising young goalkeeper, Cheikh Toure, who was killed by his kidnappers in Ghana.

The death of the 18-year-old, who had trained at the Esprit Foot Yeumbeul academy, was confirmed on Saturday, October 19, 2025.

The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal released a statement announcing that Toure's lifeless body was found after his family was unable to raise the full ransom demanded by his captors

Toure was reportedly tricked by a group of armed extortionists under the pretense of attending a trial to join a professional club. This scam led to his kidnapping and the subsequent demand for a ransom from his family. Despite the family's efforts to secure his release, the criminals followed through on their threat and murdered the teen.

Senegalese authorities have opened an investigation into the kidnapping and death in collaboration with the Ghanaian police. This joint task force is working to uncover the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The Senegalese Ministry expressed its "deep compassion to the grieving family," and a spokesperson stated the investigation was being carried out "with the greatest attention and priority." Toure's body is currently being processed for repatriation to Senegal.
