Former CDC directors warn RFK Jr. is endangering public health

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 -A group of former directors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a rare joint statement warning that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is undermining Americans’ health with his continued spread of vaccine skepticism.

They argue his public remarks and campaign messaging distort science, discourage immunization, and fuel confusion at a time when the country still faces threats from infectious diseases. The warning has triggered strong reactions across the political spectrum.

Supporters of Kennedy dismiss the criticism as an establishment attack, while health experts stress that his influence is particularly dangerous given his national profile and presidential bid. Public health advocates note that even modest drops in vaccination rates could lead to resurgences of preventable illnesses like measles and polio.

The statement raises broader questions about the role of political leaders in shaping public trust in science. With Kennedy refusing to soften his stance, former CDC officials are pressing for a stronger public health response and clearer communication from government agencies. The coming months will test whether misinformation can be contained before it translates into dangerous consequences for communities nationwide.
