BESSENT predicts Supreme Court will back TRUMP’s tariffs, but keeps backup plan

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 -Hedge fund manager Scott Bessent, a close ally of President Trump, said he expects the Supreme Court to uphold the legality of Trump’s sweeping tariffs despite a wave of legal challenges.

Speaking to investors, Bessent argued that the Court is unlikely to strike down measures he views as central to Trump’s economic strategy and political brand. The tariffs, aimed at protecting U.S. industries, have already reshaped trade flows and sparked global tensions. Reactions to his remarks reflect the broader divide over Trump’s trade agenda.

Supporters see the tariffs as a vital tool to shield American workers and pressure foreign competitors, while critics warn they’ve raised costs for consumers and strained relationships with key allies. Businesses caught in the middle remain uncertain, hedging their bets while watching the court battles unfold.

Bessent admitted that while he expects a favorable ruling, his team has prepared a “Plan B” to safeguard investments if the Court surprises with an adverse decision. That contingency underscores the high stakes of the legal fight, with outcomes that could ripple far beyond Washington into global markets and everyday household budgets.
