Woman found dead hours after checking into hotel room with a man

Wednesday, July 2, 2025 - The Enugu State Police Command has refuted media reports that a young woman was murdered in a Nsukka hotel and that her vital organs were removed in what is believed to be a ritual killing.

‘’The report is false, misleading, and capable of inciting unnecessary panic.'' SP Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson of the command said in a statement released

A preliminary investigation, according to Ndukwe, shows that the deceased woman's remains were discovered undamaged and free of any signs of organ harvesting or mutilation, as was widely believed. According to him, there is evidence that she may have been strangled because her body was found with a swollen neck and bloodstains around her mouth.

‘’On June 14, 2025, the victim, accompanied by a male suspect, checked into a hotel along Obukpa Road, Nsukka. The suspect, whose true identity and contact details are yet to be ascertained, reportedly checked out the following morning, claiming the woman had already left. However, her lifeless body was later found in the hotel room, taken to the hospital where she was confirmed dead by the attending doctor, and then deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.'' the statement read

He also mentioned that CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the state commissioner of police, had instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to step up efforts to track down and apprehend the fugitive suspect and guarantee that justice is done.

He warned individuals and media outlets spreading unfounded and sensational narratives to desist from such actions, as they only serve to mislead the public and undermine ongoing investigations.
