Saturday, August 29, 2026 - Israel’s military activity in southern Lebanon is intensifying, raising fresh concerns over civilian safety and the stability of the region.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) recorded 1,030 projectile trajectories between August 21 and 27, averaging about 147 per day. UNIFIL says that while violence remains below levels seen earlier this year, the situation is still fragile, with homes and vital infrastructure damaged and communities struggling to recover.
The latest escalation comes as Israeli forces have carried out further operations in southern Lebanon, including demolitions and artillery attacks, while advancing in areas around Aita al-Jabal. Israel says its military operations are aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure and linked to security threats, while the continuing exchanges are putting additional pressure on civilians already affected by months of conflict.
The latest UN figures underline how quickly the situation can deteriorate despite efforts to contain the violence.
The immediate priority is preventing another major escalation. With an average of more than 140 projectile trajectories recorded each day over the latest reporting period, southern Lebanon remains under serious security pressure.
Continued attacks risk further displacement, infrastructure damage and economic disruption, making urgent diplomatic efforts and stronger protection for civilians increasingly critical.
