Friday, February 18, 2022 – Deputy President William Ruto is likely to pick Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru as his running mate in the August 9th General Election.
According to the recent survey by a pollster TIFA, Waiguru emerged as the most preferred Mt. Kenya politician to be considered as the running mate for DP Ruto contrary to the earlier perception that Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is the ideal man to deputize Ruto.
According to the poll released yesterday, Waiguru, who was accused of orchestrating looting at the National Youth Service (NYS) sometime back, beat Gachagua hands down, scoring 31% compared to Gachagua’s 14% as Ruto’s likely running mate.
Overall, ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi was the best probable running mate for Ruto at 27 percent.
Waiguru, who recently expressed her willingness to be Ruto’s running mate, has already declared that she is interested in defending her governor seat in the August 9 elections.
It is worth noting that leaders from the Mt Kenya region within the Kenya Kwanza alliance have on several occasions insisted that the running mate slot is reserved for the region.
