Saturday, November 7, 2026 - American rapper Macklemore has accused nine major US concert arenas of refusing to host his planned Free Palestine benefit tour, sparking a fresh debate over freedom of expression and political activism in the entertainment industry.
The Grammy-winning star made the allegations in an emotional statement shared on Instagram on November 6, 2026, claiming that venues withdrew previously available dates after discovering that the concerts would raise funds for Palestinian organisations.
The venues he named include Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, Prudential Center, UBS Arena, Intuit Dome, Kia Forum, Crypto.com Arena, Chase Center and Climate Pledge Arena. Macklemore said he had never experienced such resistance during more than 20 years in the music business.
The controversy follows Macklemore's removal from Ed Sheeran's US tour after making public comments supporting Palestine during a performance. Rather than stepping back, the rapper launched his own benefit tour, with successful concerts in Dublin, Paris and London.
The European performances reportedly sold out, raising money for organisations providing humanitarian assistance, medical care, education and community support to Palestinians.
However, Madison Square Garden has challenged his account, with a spokesperson saying the venue has extremely limited availability and that Macklemore is not an arena-level act. Other venues had not publicly responded to the allegations in the latest reports.
Despite the setback, Macklemore insists that his fundraising mission will continue, promising to work with fellow artists and organisers to arrange more performances, even if that means taking the concerts outside traditional arenas.
His announcement has reignited discussions about whether musicians should face professional consequences for expressing political views and supporting humanitarian causes.
With nine major venues now at the centre of the dispute, attention is turning to the wider music industry and its response to politically outspoken performers. Macklemore's message is clear: losing access to major concert stages will not stop him from using his platform to raise awareness and support for Palestine.
