Gunman opens fire from moving car in European tourist hotspot, leaving 6 dead and at least 11 wounded

Saturday, November 7, 2026 -A horrifying shooting in Kraków, Poland, has left six people dead and at least 15 others injured after a gunman allegedly opened fire on pedestrians from a moving car in the city's historic Main Market Square.

The deadly attack happened at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, turning one of Europe's popular tourist destinations into a scene of panic and devastation.

Police confirmed that four women and two men were killed, while several injured victims, including two police officers, were rushed for emergency treatment. Witnesses described terrifying scenes as people ran for cover inside nearby shops and restaurants while emergency services rushed to the scene.

According to Polish authorities, the suspect was a 24-year-old Polish national who allegedly targeted people at random while driving through the busy square. He was reportedly wearing military-style clothing and carrying a military-type firearm when police confronted him.

Officers shot and wounded the suspect before taking him into custody and transporting him to hospital. Investigators also discovered additional firearms and ammunition inside his vehicle.

A tram driver reported that his vehicle was also targeted, with gunfire shattering the driver's cabin window. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect acted alone, but the motive behind the deadly attack remains unknown.

The tragedy has triggered widespread concern across Poland, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressing condolences to the victims' families and praising police officers who risked their lives to stop the attacker.

Kraków's Main Market Square attracts millions of visitors every year, making the incident particularly alarming for residents, tourists and the wider European travel community.

Authorities are continuing investigations to establish the circumstances behind the shooting, while emergency responders work to support those affected. As Poland mourns the six victims, questions about public safety and the circumstances that led to the attack are likely to remain at the centre of national attention.
