Tuesday, October 13, 2026 -A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck southern Peru on Sunday, October 11, 2026, shaking the coastal region near Camaná in Arequipa.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 8:43 a.m. local time, with its epicenter about 18 kilometres southeast of Camaná and a depth of approximately 44.9 kilometres. Authorities reported no casualties or damage following the tremor, although residents experienced light to moderate shaking.
Peru’s Emergency Operations Center confirmed that there was no tsunami threat following the earthquake. Officials continued assessing vulnerable areas to determine whether the tremor had affected buildings or essential services.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness, particularly in communities along Peru’s earthquake-prone Pacific coast, where seismic activity remains a persistent risk.
Authorities continue to emphasise the need for residents to remain alert, identify safe evacuation points and keep emergency supplies readily available. Although no immediate casualties or structural damage were reported in this incident, earthquakes can strike with little warning, making preparedness essential.
Residents are encouraged to follow official updates and safety guidance as assessments continue, ensuring that communities remain ready to respond if further seismic activity occurs.
