Saturday, September 5, 2026 - Robert Pattinson has responded to Chris Hansen’s criticism of Primetime, the new psychological thriller in which the actor portrays a character inspired by the former To Catch a Predator host.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, Pattinson said he hopes Hansen likes the movie, while stressing that he never set out to make a direct biographical film about him. The movie instead draws inspiration from Hansen’s on-screen persona and the lasting impact of his controversial television work.
Hansen has criticized the project, saying he was not consulted during production and questioning Hollywood’s motives behind the film.
He has also objected to aspects of Pattinson’s portrayal, arguing that some of the actions and statements shown do not reflect who he is. Hansen has not seen the completed movie and has even suggested he could consider legal action, although no lawsuit has been confirmed.
Pattinson, however, appears determined to let the film stand on its own. He has described Hansen’s presence as magnetic and said the role was compelling because of the unusual influence the television show continues to have decades later.
Primetime premiered at Venice on September 5 and is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 25, putting the growing dispute between the real-life figure and his Hollywood portrayal firmly in the spotlight.
