Friday, September 18, 2026 - Rescuers in Nepal have recovered four bodies from a hydropower tunnel as the search continues nearly three weeks after devastating floods swept through the region.
The bodies were recovered from the Chilime Hydropower plant along the Trishuli River, while authorities say additional bodies have been located elsewhere and recovery efforts are continuing.
The latest recovery has intensified pressure from families still waiting for information about missing relatives. Nepal's disaster management agency says 1,403 bodies have now been recovered and 6,150 people remain missing.
Families have staged protests and are demanding faster searches, clearer information and, in some cases, official death declarations so they can begin legal and religious proceedings.
Rescue teams face dangerous conditions inside the tunnels, including heavy mud, debris, rising water and damaged infrastructure. The flooding also damaged 13 hydropower plants, leaving many workers swept away or trapped.
With families still waiting for answers, rescuers are under growing pressure to reach inaccessible areas and recover those who remain missing.
