Friday, September 18, 2026 - Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, has officially opened a new history centre at Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery in Staffordshire, bringing a new focus to remembrance, education and reconciliation.
The centre includes a bilingual exhibition and workshop facilities designed to help visitors better understand the site and the relationship between Britain and Germany.
The cemetery contains the graves of nearly 5,000 German and Austrian people who died during the two World Wars.
Representatives from Britain and Germany attended the opening on Thursday, with the event highlighting the importance of remembering those affected by conflict while strengthening understanding between communities today.
The new facility is expected to give visitors and younger generations a more accessible way to explore the human cost of war and the development of post-war reconciliation.
Officials from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission described the centre as a place for learning and reflection, with its opening placing renewed attention on remembrance and the value of peace and international cooperation.
