Monday, September 7, 2026 - A mudslide killed two people and left 10 missing in eastern China, damaging a dozen houses following days of torrential rain brought by Typhoon Saudel.
The mudslide hit part of a village in Suichuan County in Jiangxi province early Saturday, prompting rescuers to rush to the scene and relocate residents to safer ground to prevent further danger.
Rescuers found one of the missing people dead among collapsed houses, while two others were rescued alive and in good condition.
The disaster occurred after days of torrential rain caused by Typhoon Saudel. More than 5,300 residents were relocated to safer areas as authorities worked to prevent further danger from flooding and landslides.
The situation remains serious as emergency teams continue searching the affected areas for those still missing. Heavy rainfall from the typhoon has also triggered landslides and other disasters in neighboring provinces, increasing pressure on rescue and emergency services.
Authorities are continuing to monitor conditions and protect residents in areas at risk of further flooding and mudslides.
