Monday, September 21, 2026 - Michelle Keegan is stepping into a challenging new role as Detective Inspector Emma Crane in ITV’s six-part crime drama The Blame, which premiered on ITV1 and ITVX on September 20, 2026.
The series follows Crane and DI Tom Radley, played by Douglas Booth, as they investigate the murder of a teenage figure skater while uncovering disturbing problems within their own police team.
The role has a personal connection for Keegan, whose father was a former police inspector. She has spoken about drawing on his experience to better understand the profession and bring greater authenticity to her portrayal of a detective working inside a complicated police environment.
Keegan also watched real police documentaries and worked with advisers while preparing for the demanding role.
The Blame is already attracting attention because it goes beyond the murder investigation, tackling misogyny, institutional cover-ups and moral compromise within the fictional Wakestead Police Station.
