Saturday, September 25, 2026 - A 47-year-old Australian man, Shumsheer Singh Ghumman, has been charged with 35 offences after police alleged he stalked Twitch streamer and chess player Hannah Sayce between April 2024 and May 2026.
Ghumman denies the allegations and intends to take the case to trial. A Victorian Supreme Court judge refused his bail on September 23, saying the material before the court indicated an unacceptable risk to Sayce’s safety and potential interference with witnesses.
The case has drawn particular attention because prosecutors allege Sayce was detained overseas after authorities received complaints about her.
Police told the court that Ghumman allegedly contacted officials in Qatar, resulting in Sayce being detained after arriving at Doha International Airport, and later contacted the Icelandic Chess Federation, where she was allegedly detained again.
Police also allege he collected information about her family, friends, addresses and travel plans despite an intervention order obtained in March 2025.
Ghumman was arrested at his Melbourne café on May 1 and faces charges including stalking, intimidation and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The allegations also include claims that he threatened to use artificial intelligence to monitor Sayce and attempted to discourage her from pursuing criminal charges. He remains in custody ahead of a further court hearing in October, while the allegations remain matters for the court to determine.
