Monday, September 21, 2026 - A Libyan committee has met in Tunisia to push forward an agreement aimed at paving the way for long-delayed national elections.
The 4+4 committee, made up of representatives from Libya's western and eastern camps, reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the agreement reached in Tripoli on August 30.
The agreement covers the reconstitution of Libya's High National Elections Commission and changes to the legal framework governing presidential and legislative elections.
Under the deal, the parties have committed to working toward elections within a period of no more than 24 months, while seeking broader support from other Libyan political and local stakeholders.
The latest meeting marks another push to break Libya's political deadlock and establish unified institutions through elections.
The committee is expected to meet again in the first week of October, keeping pressure on Libyan political actors to turn the agreement into concrete steps toward a nationwide vote.
