Thursday, September 23, 2026 - A Florida man dubbed the “LEGO Bandit” has been arrested after authorities linked him to an alleged organized retail theft operation involving more than $20,000 in merchandise across Northeast Florida.
Nassau County investigators identified Ronald Lorne Tipton as a suspect after several high-value LEGO sets were allegedly stolen from a Target in Yulee. Authorities say the thefts occurred on August 18, August 26 and September 12, with the LEGO merchandise taken in Nassau County valued at more than $3,000.
The investigation escalated on September 15 when detectives said Tipton entered a Walmart on State Road 200, selected 12 LEGO sets and attempted to leave without paying. After being confronted by store security, he allegedly fled in a U-Haul.
A Nassau County detective later spotted the truck and attempted to stop it, but investigators said Tipton drove away and struck the detective’s arm with the vehicle’s door. A pursuit followed through Fernandina Beach before a deputy stopped the U-Haul by pinning it against a tree.
Authorities arrested Tipton and another suspect, Jessica Underwood, during the operation. Investigators also reported recovering suspected methamphetamine, crack cocaine and fentanyl from the U-Haul.
Tipton faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing, organized retail theft, dealing in stolen property and possession of controlled substances.
Investigators say the case remains connected to a broader retail theft operation spanning Northeast Florida, with the total value of allegedly stolen merchandise exceeding $20,000.
