COURTENEY COX reveals what she learned about her nepo baby daughter, 22, while directing her in a new movie

Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - Courteney Cox is opening up about an unexpectedly rewarding experience on the set of her new film Evil Genius: directing her daughter, Coco Arquette. The 22-year-old appears in the crime thriller, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, giving the mother and daughter a chance to work together professionally.

Rather than treating Coco differently because she is her daughter, Cox said she recognized her independence and talent, describing her as an “incredible actor” and a force on set.

For Cox, the experience also offered a fresh perspective on the young woman Coco has become. The actress said she did not feel the need to become a protective “mama bear” while directing her daughter, because Coco was capable of standing on her own and earning the respect of the people around her.

That distinction matters as Hollywood continues to scrutinize celebrity children and the advantages that come with famous parents. In this case, Cox's comments put the emphasis on Coco's ability to contribute rather than simply on her family name.

The mother-daughter collaboration is now drawing attention as Evil Genius moves into the spotlight, while Cox herself continues expanding her career behind the camera. The film marks her return to feature directing after more than a decade, making the project significant on both a professional and personal level.

Coco's appearance alongside her mother gives audiences another glimpse at the next generation of Hollywood, and Cox's praise suggests she sees her daughter as far more than a famous name—she sees an emerging actor capable of making her own mark.
