Tuesday, September 29, 2026 - Broadcaster Tony Currie has died aged 74 after a battle with cancer, just weeks after revealing that doctors had told him he had limited time left.
Currie died at his home on the Isle of Lismore on September 26, with tributes now being paid to a broadcasting career that spanned more than six decades.
Currie became the first voice heard on Radio Clyde when the station launched in 1973 and later worked with STV and BBC Scotland.
He also continued operating Radio Six International, the station he founded as a teenager, for 63 years, while contributing to hospital broadcasting in Glasgow.
The BBC has described Currie as a familiar and respected voice who made a significant contribution to Scottish broadcasting.
His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and listeners, marking the end of a remarkable broadcasting journey that remained active across generations.
