Saturday, August 29, 2026 - Around 330,000 people remain displaced across Lebanon as renewed hostilities in the south continue to put civilians under pressure, the United Nations said Friday.
The figure comes even as roughly 820,000 people have returned to their communities in recent months, including nearly 90% of those previously displaced in the South Governorate.
The situation remains fragile, particularly south of the Litani River, where humanitarian access is still a major challenge.
The UN says access restrictions are preventing aid teams from reaching some communities and delaying assessments, leaving thousands of displaced families facing continued uncertainty over when they can safely return home.
The latest figures highlight the scale of Lebanon's continuing humanitarian emergency despite the significant number of people who have returned home.
With insecurity still affecting parts of the country and humanitarian operations facing access difficulties, the pressure on displaced families and aid agencies remains urgent. A safe and sustainable return will depend on improved security and reliable humanitarian access in affected communities.
