Thursday, August 27, 2026 - Three fishermen were injured and several others remain missing after ballistic missiles struck fishing boats near Hanish Island in the Red Sea off Yemen’s western coast, according to Yemen’s government-aligned National Resistance.
The attack reportedly destroyed three boats, while Yemeni naval forces evacuated injured fishermen and survivors to safety. Search teams are continuing efforts to locate those still unaccounted for.
The strike comes amid a fresh escalation around Yemen’s Red Sea coastline, where Houthi forces have reportedly launched ballistic missiles toward several locations and islands overlooking important maritime routes.
Government-aligned sources also said Yemeni naval forces shot down a Houthi drone over the Red Sea on Thursday. The developments are raising fresh concerns for fishermen and commercial vessels operating through the strategically important waterway.
The immediate priority is finding the missing fishermen as rescue operations continue, while authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
