Two dead after small plane crashes in Croatia’s Paklenica National Park

Friday, August 21, 2026 - Two people have died after a small plane flying from the Czech Republic crashed in the mountains of Croatia’s Paklenica National Park, about 60 kilometres northeast of the coastal city of Zadar.

Croatian authorities said air traffic control raised the alarm after the aircraft’s signal disappeared at around 4 p.m. Friday.

A major search operation followed, with members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service locating the wreckage at around 10 p.m. and finding two bodies at the crash site.

Authorities have not yet released the identities or nationalities of those killed, and the circumstances that caused the aircraft to go down remain under investigation.

Police are securing the crash site ahead of an on-site investigation as aviation authorities work to establish what went wrong.

The accident has triggered an urgent response in the rugged Paklenica area, where difficult mountain terrain can complicate rescue and recovery operations. Further details are expected as investigators examine the wreckage and gather evidence.
